PHILIPPINES – EMC Corporation announced that Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), one of the country’s largest private water concessionaire, is utilizing EMC technology for data protection and improved customer service.

With EMC’s information storage products and expertise, Maynilad provides reliable, real-time and uninterrupted flow to 17 cities in the Greater Manila Area amounting to 814,600 service accounts at present.

"The continuous growth of Maynilad’s customer base compelled us to upgrade our information storage system," said Lito Galang, head, systems operation, Maynilad. "We needed a dependable and efficient information infrastructure to manage and protect our company’s database to cope with information growth in order for us to deliver better quality of service for all our customers. "

“As our company experienced astounding growth, we realized we needed better and more efficient backup and storage consolidation systems to cope with information explosion as well as maintain optimum operational efficiency and compliance with government regulations,” he added.

Since then, Maynilad has tapped into EMC’s expertise to make the critical transition from a purely tape-based backup into a flexible networked storage infrastructure.  The changeover effectively improved systems availability due to the faster rate of data backup and restoration.

In addition, Maynilad’s decision was also based on EMC’s ability to offer operations scalability and mission-critical capability to integrate with SAP at the API level. “EMC is the only vendor that was able to meet our SAP integration requirement, which further convinced us that we have found the right partner,” said Galand.

“Maynilad’s choice of EMC’s high-performing CLARiiON solution with storage consolidation, business continuity, backup and disaster recovery technologies over traditional tape-based storage solutions to help manage the company’s increasing data load has led to high-level business advantages for the company that will, no doubt, raise the quality of service for its customers,” said Ronnie Latinazo, Philippines country manager, EMC.

"ABBE is pleased that Maynilad is able to leverage EMC’s industry-leading information infrastructure to provide a business continuity solution to drive their operations," said Art Generoso, president, ABBE Technology Solutions, Inc. and EMC channel partner. "We look forward to provide enhanced professional support to Maynilad as a local business partner of EMC."
